Pets are integral parts of our lives. We try to provide them with the best but our human centered interiors making them feel equally welcomed? Are they giving them the same amount of warmth and comfort that we are striving to give them?
If you are a proud parent of an adorable dog or cat, or planning to bring them into your house, making changes in your house is necessary to make it pet friendly.
Here are a few tips on making your abode a heaven for your little friends too.
1. Choose fur free upholstery
Avoid choosing fabrics that can act like a magnet for your pet hair like velvet and silk. Use smooth tapestries like leather and synthetic fibers.
Use pet friendly furniture
Make sure your furniture is not a toy for your furry teething friend. Refrain using exposed wood, wicker furniture. Use strong materials like metal and chromium that your friend doesn’t want to chew.
3. Create space for pet accessories
If you are bringing in a pet into your house, just like you would create separate space for them to store all their toys and accessories, you have to create separate storage space and play area for our little friends and make sure they have their privacy too.
4. Choose your area rugs wisely.
Area rugs are the unofficial beds for pets. They roll and sleep during which there can be a lot of hair shedding. Make sure your rug isn’t made of velvet, leather or denim that can attract a lot of hair. Patterned rugs are a great idea of hiding the hair if you are not a regular cleaning person.
5. Installing sliding gates
Try to install sliding gates wherever possible. These make your pets independent and allow them to move freely around without any restrictions. They do not have to wait for you to open the door for them.
6. Do not opt for expensive flooring
In case you have a pet at home, avoid using expensive hardwood flooring that may be easily damaged by your pet’s nails. Instead go for laminate, ceramic or stone flooring.
7. Avoid using textured walls
Textured walls are prone to hurt our little friends and also collect animal fur. Hence opt for satin or semi glossed paint.
